Emotions

Hi people of the web (that are probably here because they are bored to death by other tasks). 😉

BORED: This emotion is not unusual... sadly 😔 **trying to sigh but end up gasping and looking like I'm about to die by choking on air**.

ANNOYED: Some weirdos that are constantly coughing ended up behind me in math for 2 hours (because of the SBAC testing seating arrangement) and made me kind of sick. 😒

EXCITED: I am go to a sleepover this weekend! Nice way to celebrate the end of SBAC. 😊

CONFUSED: I don't know how I should format my flyer for the English project.

NERVOUS: I am getting back my 100-point essay (that was an argumentative letter to President Trump) back on Friday. I really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, ... really hope I didn't make a stupid grammar/spelling/punctuation mistake because you know it is like going to the president of the U.S.A. 😳

Side note: My English teacher said that usually the President won't actually read it, just an aid. 😌

DOUBTFUL: I don't think I did as well as I usually do on the SBAC... whatever.

Side note: The only reason I am indifferent about the statement above is because that is what I think every year, but I end up getting 100% on it anyway. Am I being overconfident? 😖

HOPEFUL: I hope my friends get into this math thing (called Summer Bridge). 👍 They get the results tomorrow... I think.

That is it for this post. See you all later. Bye! 👋

What's My Opinion On: NAIL CLIPPERS

SORRY!

I only made one post last month so I will try to make four or five this month. Let's see how long that goes... Anyway, let's talk about nail clippers

  • I only appreciate them when nail fillers come attached
    • The pick thingy on the end of the nail filler on mine comes in handy when my nails are dirty
Side note: LOL! The spell checker on this post underlines the word "thingy" as if I made a typo... Wow! I just realized I got through like 5 sentences in the actual post before getting distracted.

Side note for the Side note: First of all, it also underlines "LOL". Second, I will explain more about my overly distracted brain in the next post... I think?
  • I get super annoyed when the stupid clipper need more that 2 chances to trim my nail perfectly
    • Especially when I realize there is a corner I forgot to trim a day after trimming them
  • My religion has this rule where I can only cut my nails on certain days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday)
    • Since majority of them are every other day, even if I notice the day after cutting my nails, I can't do anything about it until the next day
      • This becomes problematic because I usually forgot to do the days I can... I am so smart... NOT!
Side note: For those who are wondering, this WMOO post idea was given to me by some that wishes to remain entirely nameless because of the weird topic. So no initials this time.

That is it for this post I hope you enjoyed it.

Side note: Yes, I did notice that I used a lot of ellipses in this post... I have no idea why...

Spring Break Highlights + Secret Superstar Review(SPOILER ALERT!!!)

Hey all! Since I didn't do very much in Spring Break, I decided to add a movie review as well.
Spring Break Highlights:
Our Spring Break was from March 30th - April 8th. Even though it has only been a week, I am struggling to recall what I did... I'll try to list everything fun that we did (as far as my terrible memory remembers). 😳
  1. Went to Sakoon for dinner on my birthday
  2. Bought 7-Up bundt cake for my birthday
  3. Watched Secret Superstar at home
  4. Watched Padmavat at home
  5. Played around with my Tombow brush pens + Stabilo fineliners 😄
  6. Went to Ikea for the first time in like 3 years
  7. Ate 5 chocolate malt balls at once 😋
  8. Became bored very easily
Side note: Find a hidden link in the post to see one of the things I made for my binder cover using my brush pens and fineliners.

Secret Superstar Review:
Background - A Hindi, Bollywood movie starring Aamir Khan(Shakti Kumar), Zaira Wasim(Insu), Meher Vij(Ammi), Raj Arjun(Farookh), Tirth(Chintan Parekh), etc.
Summary - I am going to assume you have watched the movie, therefore I will not summarize it unnecessarily.
My Rating - ★★★★★★★★☆☆(8 out of 10 stars), Good overall
Pros - Excellent songs, nice moral, well thought-out plot, realistic characters
Cons - Not very practical/pragmatic(from the standpoint of American rules/laws)

That is it for this post, see you all in like 2 weeks.

Side note: I will be in Disneyland for a band field trip from Thursday - Sunday(April 19-22)!

My Birthday!!!

The moment this is posted, I will officially be a teenager. WOOT!!! 😁

People say that kids that are in their teen years act and are strange. This year I will TRY to go against that stereotype. This year, unlike most of the other years prior, I will not be celebrating my birthday for personal reasons. I remember last year... 100 people in ONE room in front of ONE cake. I barely had any space to stand. It was fun either way though. Ths year I bought a bunch of stuff for myself which is arriving this Monday-Friday. Can't wait for that! Comment down below if you want me to make a post with a review of the stuff I bought:

  • Tombow Dual Brush Pens, 10-Pack, Pastels (Amazon)
  • Stabilo 88 Fineliners, 10-Pack, Pastel (Amazon)
  • Whitelines Graph Notebook, 70 Sheets, Spiral (Amazon)
  • Mini Pencil Case (Daiso)
  • 2 Plastic Erasers (Daiso)
That's it for this post. Make sure you guys read my next post (with all of my 13-year-old thoughts).

Sidenote: My next post will probably be soon since I will have nothing to do over Spring Break, which starts today! 9 days of sitting on my butt and staring at this screen for hours on end is in my future. 😏

What's My Opinion On: VITAMIN C

Don't even ask why the topic is what it is... I might as well deal with it. 😒

Hi, people of the universe. Your fellow gaura is back with another post. I realized that March was about to end and I still had 2 more posts left for this month, so I decided to make a certain type of post. At least one of the posts each month will be a WMOO(What's My Opinion On...) post. To pick the topic, I am going to ask someone(today it was my brother) to say a word that is not a name. Then, I will create a post either ranting, sugarcoating, or just stating facts about the topic. Comment down below your suggestions for WMOO posts as well as your opinions on that topic. Ranting is allowed as long as it is appropriate. Let's talk about vitamin C...

  • Some fruits with vitamin C are delicious while others aren't
    • Guavas, melons, berries, and citrus fruits are great 👍
    • Papayas, bananas, broccoli, and dark leafy greens are things I usually try my best to avoid 👎
  • Taking vitamin C does appear to reduce the duration of a cold by about 10 percent in adults and 15 percent in children.
  • Vitamin C is the single most searched nutrient (vitamin, mineral or herb) on the Internet. 😲
  • Vitamin C manufactures certain anti-stress hormones and turns food into energy.
    • If this is true, then Nandy and I have a shortage... 😳
  • Vitamin C deficiencies are rare
That is it for the first WMOO. This ended up not as fun as I expected because my brother gave me such a factual topic, it is hard to have an opinion on it. Hopefully, the next person I ask won't be a nerd. 😉 See you all in a few days!

The MK Salad + Schedule Revision

Hey guys!

I think you might have noticed that I haven't posted anything in more than a month. I was really busy with Science Olympiad (in which our team did better than expected), but now it is over. I have more time now, but not enough to post once a week like in my previous schedule. So I have made a revised schedule starting today; I will try to post 2-3 (hopefully 3) times a month. I'll see how this plan works, then I may or may not change it according to the results.

Anyway, moving on to the salad. This weekend, after Science Olympiad, most of the teams went to Sweet Tomatoes for dinner, as a treat. We were casually talking and eating, then one of the members of our team came up to our table after getting EVERYTHING he wanted to eat. (This person wishes to stay nameless, so I'll just use the initials MK.) We burst out laughing the second we saw his plate, so my brother made a recipe for MK's "salad". I thought it was pretty unusual, so here it is:

  1. Find ONE perfect crouton
  2. Put it in the in a dish
  3. Place the dish in the fridge
  4. Leave the dish in the fridge for 3 hours
  5. Take the dish out of the fridge
  6. Find a round, red plate(the kind you get at Sweet Tomatoes)
  7. Carefully put the crouton in the center of the plate
  8. Leave the crouton on the counter for an hour (while waiting, go for a drive)
  9. Brush away any excess crumbs
  10. Serve and enjoy!
That recipe brings an end to my post, and I hope you enjoyed it!

Sidenote: I dare all of you to try out the salad at home or at Sweet Tomatoes!

Update: Science Olympiad Thornton Invitationals

Hi all! Before I go on to the post, there are a few things one should know about Science Olympiad and how our invitationals worked.

  1. Everybody has 3-4 events with a partner(I had 4)
  2. An event is basically a topic/subject the pair of members have to study for
  3. Events can either be build(where we have to build something that does a certain task) or theory(where we have to study the topic so we can do a test the day of the competition
  4. In Thornton, there are 3 teams, Blue, Black, and Yellow(in order of ranking)
  5. Nandy and I are in team Black
  6. In any event, we can either get first, second, or third(only 3 teams)
Now that you kind of know the rules, I can tell you how it went for me and some of my teammates:
  • We(Nandy and I) got 1st in Fast Facts!
    • We had studied most of the categories they tested us on, but we(*Nandy*) brain farted on some of her categories. This led us to guess half of it because there was no penalty for guessing and my dad said to leave nothing blank.
    • The judges, including my dad, spent 90 minutes grading it because they had to search up each word to make sure if each of our guesses were factual or not. 😉
  • We(Nandy and I) got 2nd in Disease Detectives.
    • We think they made an error when they were grading ours because our answer was scientifically correct, but they marked it wrong
    • It would be really sad for us if they actually made an error because we would have gotten first place if we got one more question right. 😞
  • We(Arul and I) got 2nd place in Roller Coaster.
    • While we were calculating the final score, we realized that time doesn't matter nearly as much as the gap lengths
    • Lots of changes to do in 4 weekends.
  • We got 3rd in Write It/Do It. 😒
    • We hadn't even used half the materials they had tested us on.
    • It was such a hard and confusing model!
Overall though, our team did pretty well. A few kids even got 1st in more than 1 event. The whole invitational was really good practice for the real thing and it was like a wake-up call for a lot of us. Bye all, I have to go back to studying...

FIVE Youtube Channels I Like

Hi! I feel like you guys and gals don't know enough about me... unless you stalk me of course.

**Inner Thoughts: Yup. Keep believing that people care enough about you to stalk you... maybe it will happen one day!**

I've decided to share five youtube channels I enjoy watching during my downtime and a little bit about each one:

  1. How to Hand Letter - Teaches how to do modern calligraphy with a variety of tools
  2. TED-Ed - Animated educational video (My favorite playlist is the one with all of the riddles!)
  3. Kurzgesagt-In a Nutshell - Similar to TED-Ed but more scientific and explanatory
  4. Vihart - Math that involves lots of inspiration and doodles!
  5. Crash Course - In-depth courses on a variety of subject with humor too! (Courses by the Green brothers are my personal favorite—especially John Green!)
Sidenote: These channels are in no particular order... All of them are equally awesome!

If you have some channels you think are good, please comment down below. Bye, see you all next week!

Random Nerdy Thoughts with Nandy

Hallo! In this post, I will just write down a bunch of thoughts that come to my mind throughout the day with the times I thought of them. So here goes nothing:

7:50 am - Why is everyone so loud?! Can't one sleep in peace for like 12 hours?

8:00 am - I guess I have to get up now... Full day ahead of me *sigh*

9:30 am - I am running so late! *Stuff breakfast in mouth mode turned on.*

10:00 am - I am prepared for the event. Come on girl! You spent a solid 30 seconds working on the roller coaster. Teehee 😀

12:20 pm - Duct tape balls are frauds!

2:00 pm - My butt hurts from sitting on the ground... Great! Nandy's here.

2:05 pm - Yay! I get to sit on an actual chair! Woot!

2:10 pm - LUNCHTIME... BREAK THING!

2:30 pm - I have to get up to go get writing utensils and a calculator. So far away...

2:40 pm - I have survived the treacherous trek to the bedroom without stepping and a staple, falling/tripping on something, or getting distracted by something! What an accomplishment! On top of that, I actually found my calculator and two pens in my desk(a.k.a. a black hole).

4:45 pm - So tired of sitting. Want... to... walk...

5:00 pm - Aah... Good old fresh air!

5: 05 pm - No! Nandy's leaving...

5:10 pm - Going to Woyu's house... So much fun!

5:50 pm - Why isn't the stupid foam staying still?! UGH!

7:00 pm - DINNER! I am starving...

7:15 pm - We did so well yesterday at Science Bowl! 5th place in REGIONALS... Not bad considering that the top two get to go to NATIONALS! So close, we lost to stupid Hopkins!

7:30 pm - Yay! Time to sleep(lay on a bed thinking)...

7:45 pm - Why are the weekends in my life so busy? Schedule for next and past few weeks:

  • 1/27 - Science Bowl (Half day)
  • 2/3 - Math League (Most of Day)
  • 2/7 - AMC 10
  • 2/10 - Science Olympiad Invitational (Most of Day)
  • 2/17 - Band Sight Reading Challenge (Half Day)
  • 2/24 - Dance Performance (Half Day)
  • 3/3 - Math Kangaroo (Half Day)
  • 3/10 - Science Olympiad Regionals (Most of Day)

Whole Day Summary - Eat. Science Olympiad. Sleep. Repeat.

BOWL! PLATES! CUPS! SPORKS!

SCIENCE! I am really busy right now so this week I will just give you a really quick update on my Asian, nerdy life.

I am really busy studying for my Science Bowl regionals tournament that is going to be held at Sandia Labs(Livermore) this Saturday. Making it into the team means a lot to me, because of many expectations.

  1. My brother was on the team for the last two years (Team captain last year)
  2. I was the only seventh-grade girl there (I wanted to prove that anyone can get in)
  3. All of my friends kept encouraging me (I just couldn't let them down)
  4. Family expectations (Similar to the first expectation)
Normally, I wouldn't be this worried, but recently our coach/teacher said that instead of two teams (as we originally planned) we would only be allowed to take one team. I have been studying really hard this week to get in. Sorry for the really short(trashy) post this week! Be sure to check again next Monday because I will be doing a collab next week!

3-Day Weekend "Fun" and Terrible Timing

Hey! Did you all have fun during the "long" weekend? Mine was pretty moderate as most of my life is... You will realize that pretty soon.

Have you all ever had that moment where you go to a dentist(example) and then they ask you if any of your teeth hurt, how often you brush your teeth, etc? You say everything is fine...
1 HOUR LATER: "Ow! Why does my molar have to be so problematic?!"

The above scenario is kind of what happened to my brother on Saturday. All of his brackets were still intact when he left the orthodontist...
10 MINUTES LATER: "What is that sharp thing in my mouth?!" *Spits out a bracket* "Really! You decide to fall off now of all times!"
So my dad and brother called the orthodontist, Dr. Robert Chen, and he says come back in an hour and we'll just cut off part of the wire so it doesn't poke you. (He couldn't reglue the bracket since he needed an assistant to do that and the office was already closed.)

Other than that, I just worked on Science Olympiad and Science Bowl.

That is it for this post. Happy MLK day and see you all next Monday!

What I Did Over Winter Break and Rainy School Days

Ugh!

Normally I love school, but I hate waking up early in rainy, cold weather. The weather forecast says that it will rain all day today. I'm not a big fan of rain on a school day, especially Mondays, because:
  1. I have to go in between classes carrying an umbrella. (Since so many people are in my school, the probability of getting your eyes poked out are very high.)
  2. Lunch is always held in the Large Gym, so everyone is so squished and the entire gym is a mess.
  3. I have P.E. 5th period, right after lunch, so we have to wait for like 20 minutes for the gym to get cleaned out so we can do stuff indoors.
  4. I have to walk a mile home, and my (roller)backpack gets all wet as well as the stuff inside it.
  5. All of the above leads to soggy socks which make my feet cold.
  6. Mondays end weekends and means so much homework/projects. (I decided to post on Mondays because I wanted to have an upside of Monday, your feedback and comments.)

I know all of my teachers are going to ask everyone what the did during the break. If you guys were wondering what I did, read the list below(in no particular order):
  • Science Olympiad
  • Science Bowl
  • Watched Tiger Zinda Hai in Century Theaters(now you know I can speak in Hindi)
  • Watched Smurfs The Lost Village and Jumanji at home
  • Math League
  • Watched my brother get braces on some of his teeth
  • Had an eye appointment (my power increased)
  • Get lots of boxes of chocolate (from Christmas and other stuff)
  • Almost completely recover from hives
  • Had fun with friends (Dinner parties and stuff)
  • Start a blog!

Sidenote: If you want to know more about my brother's braces and our eye checkup, make sure you go check out his blog below:
                          ojaswlife.blogspot.com

What did all of you do during the break(if you had one)? Make sure to comment down below and I'll see you all next week!
